Thomas Fiedler grew up in Bonn and Brussels. He studied music theater directing under Prof. Götz Friedrich in Hamburg and has been living in Berlin and Umbria for over 20 years.

His cross-genre productions, bridging spoken and musical theater, have been presented at numerous opera and theater houses both in Germany and internationally.

In 2008, he co-founded the artist collective KOMMANDO HIMMELFAHRT with Hamburg composer Jan Dvořák. The group explores the boundaries of political and scientific utopias.

Fiedler was a member of the Artistic Direction at Theater Aachen and served as Acting Chief Director and Deputy Artistic Director of the Junges Staatstheater Berlin. He also frequently works as a curator for the Mannheimer Sommerfestival. As a lecturer, he has taught at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) on multiple occasions and has contributed as a dramaturg to productions by artists such as Reinhild Hoffmann, Albrecht Hirche, Falk Richter, Christoph Marthaler, and René Pollesch.

His productions have been staged at venues including Internationales Kulturzentrum Kampnagelin Hamburg, HAU BerlinRuhrTriennaleNationaltheater MannheimSchauspielhaus ZürichStaatstheater CottbusOldenburgisches StaatstheaterTheater Oberhausen, and Theater Freiburg. Many of his works have received awards and been invited to festivals, including the Rolf Mares Prize of Hamburg Theaters, the Ikarus Prize, and the „Frosch“ award from Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Fiedler’s interest in new musical forms has also led to regular collaborations with contemporary music ensembles such as the Neue Vocalsolisten StuttgartEnsemble MosaikEnsemble Resonanz, and Ensemble Modern. Performances of their joint works have been featured at prominent festivals, including Acht Brücken Köln, the Darmstadt Summer Course for New MusicEclat Festival StuttgartKontraklang BerlinUltraschall Festival Berlin, and the Bregenz Festival.
